About the author:
Dr. Lazaro has 26 years of professional experience as an ophthalmologist, with 12 years as a professor and chair of the department of ophthalmology at the State University of New York Downstate Medical Center, before joining NYU Langone Health in 2017. Dr. Lazaro also serves as Vice President – Operations, Clinical Affairs and Business Development . Throughout his career, he has become proficient in performing complex corneal transplants, laser vision correction, diagnosing and managing complex corneal diseases and external diseases. On a daily basis, he is responsible for overseeing ophthalmic operations at multiple FGP sites while providing supervision of H and H sites.
Dr Sami McFarlane has extensive clinical and translational research experience in the prevention of diabetes and its complications. He served as Chair of the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism and Medical Director for Clinical Research at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences. Dr. MacFarlane is the editor of several books and has authored more than 300 publications on diabetes, cardiovascular disease and related disorders. His work has attracted over 250,000 readings and over 10,000 quotations in major medical journals. He is the founding editor-in-chief of the International Journal of Clinical Research and Trials, served as a 3-term member and chair of the NIH-NIDDK Committee, and also served as Brooklyn County Chair of the American College of Physicians. Dr. MacFarlane also received a Certificate of Special Appreciation from Congress from the US House of Representatives. He is a recognized mentor with trainees in leadership positions at the National Institutes of Health and other major institutions.
