Toyota reported a Thai bribe investigation to the US Securities and Exchange Commission and the Department of Justice

Nagoya: Toyota Motor Corp. said today it has reported potential violations of anti-bribery laws involving a subsidiary in Thailand to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the U.S. Department of Justice (DoJ).

Toyota said it revealed potential violations by the agencies in April 2020, adding that it is cooperating with its investigations.

“Investigations could lead to civil or criminal penalties, other purposes or penalties, or lawsuits by the Ministry of Justice or the Securities and Exchange Commission,” the Japanese automaker said in a regulatory file.

Toyota said the company could not predict the scope, duration or outcome of the investigations at this time.
