A White House official said, Wednesday, that the United States plans to double its request for the Johnson & Johnson single-shot vaccine for Coronavirus, and purchase 100 million additional doses.
The official said President Joe Biden will make the announcement at a meeting with CEOs of J&J and Merck & Co later in the day.
Merck has agreed to partner with J&J to produce its vaccine.
J&J manufacturing was slower than expected, and the company was not expected to be able to deliver any doses of its vaccine this week. Shipments are expected to resume later in March.
