The Samsung Galaxy S21 series was announced today. Many of you are probably wondering if the in-screen fingerprint scanner will work with screen protectors? Well the short answer is and he… Will. but there is a problem.
First of all, note that the Galaxy S21 and S21 Ultra units did not come with a screen protector pre-installed. We don’t know if this is the case in most areas but this is something worth noting.
The screens of the Galaxy S21 series are well protected, although their screens are protected by Gorilla Glass Victus. This is Corning’s newest and most advanced screen protection.
The Galaxy S21 fingerprint scanner should work fine with most screen protectors
However, you should be absolutely fine if you decide to get a regular plastic screen protector, and use it with the device. It should work for almost any one of them, assuming it’s applied correctly.
Galaxy S21 series smartphones may have problems with some glass screen protectors. Samsung hasn’t confirmed anything of the sort, so that’s a possibility at this point.
This has been the problem in the past, and although the Galaxy S21 series comes with Qualcomm’s all-new 3D Sonic fingerprint scanner, it’s still a problem. Some glass screen protectors are quite thick.
The Galaxy S21 series uses Qualcomm’s new ultrasound fingerprint scanners
Speaking of which, Qualcomm recently announced a 3D ultrasound fingerprint scanner, which is what Samsung decided to use on all of its Galaxy S21 smartphones.
The Gen 2 3D Sonic fingerprint scanner is 77 percent larger, meaning the area it covers to enroll your fingerprint. It captures 1.7x more biometric data, and it’s 50 percent faster than its predecessor.
