Paris Saint-Germain coach Thomas Tuchel said Ander Herrera died in the locker room after a 3-0 win over Rennes on Saturday.
The Ligue 1 champions are exhausted in their Ligue 1 match, with Kylian Mbappe, Neymar and Marco Verratti missing due to injury.
Herrera rose in their absence and set up a goal for Angel Di Maria, who was named the match’s best player, after scoring two goals.
But for Tuchel, the former Manchester United midfielder deserved the exclusivity.
“Andir was dead before the match. He died in the locker room tonight. What he did was extraordinary. The same for Leandro Paredes.
At first, we wished he would play for an hour but it was necessary for him to play the whole game. We played well with Rennes’ teams but we showed good mentality and team effort. Tuchel said, “It was a great win.”
