Pokemon Trading Card released a new collection here at the end of February called Shining Fates. Today we’re taking a look at a few different boxes and unpacking a few packages to see what’s in them. This isn’t your average group – it’s relatively small, which means you have a better chance of “Catch Em All” than usual. Not only does this set contain the standard jokes, chips, and Pokemon V and VMAX Pokemon cards, but it also contains the SHINY versions for each of these types of cards.
First, let’s take a moment to appreciate just how diverse the illustrations are still here in this latest Pokemon TCG in February of 2021. We have three versions of Cramorant Pokemon here, each with different abilities, illustrations, and executions.
There is a basic kramurant, and this is uncommon. Then there’s the rare SHINY Cramorant, with an all-new chip pattern (more on that below). Then there’s Cramorant V, complete with two of the most epic moves we’ve ever seen in such a pitiful beast.
Next we have Morpico. This is Shiny Rare Pokemon, which features one of the best Pokemon in the entire Pokemon universe. You’ll see here how Shiny Rare Pokemon features a new shiny pattern – physical, and rugged foil – that’s just beautiful. It’s a brilliant blast!
If you purchase one of the Special Edition cans that came with this set, you will get Shiny V Pokemon. In this tin we have Eldegoss V, with a similar pattern to Rare Shiny Pokemon.
Shiny V Pokemon also has a burst of metallic chips, but the said burst center is lower, since the illustration on the card takes up the entirety of the card, instead of just the top half. This is a very nice touch!
Another rare Pokemon type that you can achieve in this set is Amazing Rare. This Rare is given a multi-colored star with an “A” in the center, located directly below the card.
This Yveltal features a whirl of color that goes beyond the frame of the standard Pokemon Rare illustration, making this rare feel particularly special. The ability of this Pokemon … is also very good: “Your opponent’s active Pokemon has been expelled.” Easy!
You can also get SHINY VMAX! This beast is very shiny, so it’s made of foil, so VMAX reflects all the colors. This might be more of an effort to play than it’s worth, but it still sounds pretty.
The Pokemon TCG Shining Fates Training Box contains mega VMAX Eevee and a color scheme that includes black and dark peanut butter – orange / brown. The Eevee card protectors for this package feel a little more matte than previous training box protectors.
The Shining Fates collection is on display in stores at this moment, at prices broadly equivalent to those of the latest collection over the past two years. And look great, packs the cards to accessories and back again.
