Panic in South Africa. In question : Several young crocodiles have escaped from a farm in the south of the country., more than 150 km east of Cape Town. Authorities announced on Thursday, March 4, that the police were actively looking for this band of dangerous reptiles. A “dedicated team” of law enforcement agencies has been mobilized to find these animals that are between 1.2 and 1.5 meters long, said CapeNature, the province’s environmental service. Police, environmental associations, landowners and farmers “are conducting investigations” around the Breede River near the farm, he said.
The absence crocodiles was observed on Wednesday morning by the breeder : “There was a hole in the fence and an undetermined number of crocodiles had escaped,” James-Brent Styan, spokesman for the province’s Environment Ministry, told AFP.
The teams deployed in this hunt they have already recovered 27 young crocodiles. To capture them, “human traps, that is, cages in which the bait is placed, arranged along the river,” detailed Razeena Omar, executive director of Cape Nature in a statement.
