Prince Philip, 99, had been admitted to London’s King Edward VII Hospital as a “precautionary measure on the advice of his royal highness physician.” The palace said in a statement that the prince consort had felt “unwell”. A source had specified that he was not affected by Covid-19, who received his first vaccine injection in early January.
Prince Philip took his retirement in August 2017, having participated in more than 22,000 official public engagements since his wife’s accession to the throne in 1952. He continues to accompany the queen in certain public appearances.
In June 2017, he was hospitalized for two days to treat “an infection linked to an existing pathology.” He had undergone hip surgery in 2018. At the end of December 2019, he was hospitalized for four days at the Rey Eduardo VII Hospital “for pre-existing health problems.”
