Pokemon GO’s search and subscription features leaked teardown

This week the folks at Niantic released a new update for Pokemon GO. In addition to what we were able to see in the game’s live code, a whole host of new and completely inactive features appeared in the game architecture. Items like the new Ditto Plugin Library (maybe for Shiny Ditto?) And the Promise Library appeared in the mix before it was ready to roll into the right game – let’s peek!

People in PokeMiners on Reddit Posting to The Silph Road showed a giant list of bits and pieces about Pokemon GO’s current game icon. This update includes new moves, new ways to search, and new Level Up stats.

If you are looking for new ways to organize and search your Pokemon, you can now peek at Tag and XL Candy Searching. If you have the latest Pokemon GO, you should now be able to search for the names that have attached it to your tags – great pills! You will also be able to search for “candyxl” to find the Pokemon you played in the previous level 40.5!

A bunch of icons have appeared indicating that there will be an in-app photo editing feature in the future. Editor tools may be on your way soon!

There’s a new “Ditto Extensions” library in the game code – it’s very basic. It’s not immediately clear what purpose this library is for using, but anything else new is welcome!

There’s a new way to push sponsored updates to the game, including regular updates, scrolling, and buttons. This will likely emerge as Niantic’s new way to display ads in the form of sponsored events or products.

A very strange little tag appeared in the code as well. Currently, the tag “DismissAllPokemonInventories” doesn’t appear to be doing anything for the live game, but it might do something soon. This might have something to do with searching through the tags – we’ll learn more when activating them.

Top level stats have been modified with this update. Active now (apparently) is Pokemon Caught, PokeStops Visited, Raids Won, and Previous Level Activity.

If you’re looking into the future of Pokemon GO, look to the subscription costs. In-game – and adding it to the game over the past few weeks and months – there are references to subscription costs in abundance. This week we see “SubscriptionState” with the following: Active, Canceled, Expired, Grace_Period, Free_trial, Pending_Purchase, AutoRenewDate, and Verified SKU Info.
