OPPO has set its annual INNO Day on November 17, 2020, to showcase new innovations in consumer technology. In her last tweet, the company Mentioned It explores new shapes and forms for next-generation smartphones. Although nothing specific was mentioned in the text, the attached image reveals that OPPO will unveil a new concept phone that features a foldable screen.
It also gives us a glimpse of the device that features a curved screen on the left edge. It appears that the screen will be expandable on the right side. It’s worth noting that this isn’t the first time we’ve seen a demo of a foldable smartphone. The Chinese company TCL recently showed off two rollable smartphones, which can expand both vertically and horizontally.
OPPO unveils a foldable concept phone tomorrow
Based on the leaks, LG is scheduled to launch its Project B foldable smartphone as part of Project Explorer in the first half of 2021. OPPO’s new concept phone looks quite similar to some of the foldable phone patents that were spotted earlier this year. Even OPPO has patented several foldable and rollable phone designs.
While the OPPO patented smartphone features a vertically retractable screen, the device in the joke has a screen that can be retracted horizontally. OPPO also showed off its foldable smartphone during the MWC 2019 event, but the company has never launched it.
During the INNO Day event, the company will also unveil the second generation of augmented reality glasses alongside the foldable concept phone. As of now, details are very scarce on these two products. OPPO will reveal the full details of these two products in less than 24 hours.
The company will also introduce the 2nd generation AR glasses
Since these are just concept devices, they won’t be commercially available anytime soon. While people, in general, will be more enthusiastic about these concept phone ads, the company also has to come up with an intuitive software to deliver a better experience.
There are brands like Samsung and Huawei already selling foldable smartphones in the market. While rollable smartphones will avoid creating creases, the company must also ensure that they provide a longer display panel life. In its current state, foldable phones are not recommended for everyday use.
With the upcoming concept phone, OPPO must also explain how foldable smartphones can be a good alternative to foldable smartphones. This device may come with the newly announced 125W Flash Charge technology. Stay tuned for the full details of this first-of-its-kind smartphone.
