Bethesda Softworks revealed this week that Doom 3: VR Edition will be available on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 this month. This version of the game is completely official, and optimized for this gameplay with motion controls, a quick 180-degree rotation function, and new “textures, shading and sound effects”. It’s a whole new look at a very classic game that has seen its fair share of unofficial releases, expansions, and iterations, for sure.
This version of Doom 3 includes Doom 3 and expansions called Resurrection of Evil and the Missing Mission. All of these are included in one package, “Remastered for PS VR Technology”. As said Parker Wilhelm, Assistant Content Director at Bethesda Softworks, this game lets you return to the wildest games ever.
“Discover the secrets of UAC’s unholy experiences,” Wilhelm said, “Encounter supernatural monsters in claustrophobic environments, and use an arsenal of iconic (and even other) weapons with new materials, shading and sound effects as they survive the powers of Hell. Stops the heart. ”
Doom 3: VR Edition will be released on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 with backward compatibility. The release date is March 29, 2021, and is fully compatible with the PSVR Virtual Reality Speaker System right out of the gate. Make sure you are using the target controller and have visited the restroom before you begin.
Another unofficial iteration of this game was released again in January of this year (2021) by the folks on Team Beef for Oculus Quest! This is a port, and it requires playing the original Doom 3, but you’ll get it rolling!
Again, this is not an official port, so it is not a specially designed or optimized hardware optimizer like the PSVR version, as mentioned above. But if you have one piece of hardware and not the other, your decision may already be made for you! UPDATE: Also remember there’s DOOM 3 BFG Edition VR available too – it’s unofficial too!
