Nevada State Steve Sisolak said Friday that he has tested positive for the Covid-19 virus.
The Democratic governor said he has been tested with a rapid test in Carson as part of a regular protocol.
He said a PCR test, which codes for polymerase chain reaction, has been performed, and the governor is awaiting these results. PCR tests take longer but are highly accurate.
The governor said he is being quarantined at home. His office said he had no symptoms of Covid-19, but reported feeling tired earlier this week – something he attributed to his schedule.
Nevada, like most of the United States, is seeing a rise in Covid-19 cases. “Nevadan needs to accept and understand this reality now and change behavior immediately,” the governor said on Tuesday.
He said all residents should operate in a “stay at home 2.0” mentality similar to measures from the spring, which include things like staying home as much as possible and avoiding gatherings regardless of size.
He said he’s asking Nevadan to do the role voluntarily, but within two weeks, he can take what he described as a stronger measure.

Nationwide, the US was ever breaking daily records – and it happened again on Friday when more than 170,400 cases were reported, according to the NBC News tally. The previous record was on Thursday, when 161,651 cases were reported.
