Motorola recently confirmed that its upcoming Moto Edge S will launch with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 chipset “soon”. Now, just hours after Qualcomm announced the Snapdragon 870 5G chipset, the Lenovo-owned company has revealed that the next flagship will debut with Qualcomm’s new chipset on January 26 in China. Motorola has moved to the Chinese microblogging site Weibo To announce the development
The Moto Edge S will be the first smartphone to be powered by the Snapdragon 870 5G processor. Qualcomm’s new chipset delivers the fastest clock speed for a mobile platform yet. Although it packs the Cortex-A77-based previous generation Kryo 585, the CPU cores run at a maximum frequency of 3.2GHz. Snapdragon 888 runs its core core at 2.84 GHz.
Moto Edge S is confirmed to launch on January 26th
Motorola has been harassing the new phone for a while now. The company is re-entering the leading Chinese smartphone market with the Moto Edge S. It will be the first Moto Edge series phone to be launched in China.
Aside from the processor, not much is officially known about the upcoming Motorola phone yet. However, it is rumored that it will feature a 6.7-inch Full HD + display with dual-slot notches and a single 105Hz refresh rate. Motorola may pair the Snapdragon 870 chipset with 8GB or 12GB of RAM and at least 128GB of storage.
There may be a 64MP primary camera on the back. It is said that the quad rear camera setup will also have a 16MP ultra-wide camera and a 2MP depth sensor. The fourth sensor should be a macro camera. The dual punched holes in the front may house a 16MP selfie camera with an 8MP ultra-fast secondary sensor. It is also expected to feature a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, a 5,000 mAh battery, and Android 11.
There are reports that the Moto Edge S is the same device that has been touring the internet with the codename “Nio”. Motorola Nio is already FCC, TUV Rheinland and 3C certified. Those certificates revealed that the phone will pack a 5000 mAh battery with 20W wired charging support.
The Geekbench list revealed last month that the “Nio” phone will get 8 GB of random access memory (RAM) and will run Android 11 out of the box. It also revealed the presence of the Adreno 650 GPU, which is what we get with the Snapdragon 870. In all likelihood, the Motorola Nio is none other than the Moto Edge S. We’ll definitely know it in about a week from now.
The price and availability details of the Moto Edge S remain a mystery. It is also unclear if Motorola plans to bring the new device outside of China as well. Hopefully we’ll have an official word on that during the January 26th launch. We will keep you updated when the company makes a new announcement.
