FRANKFURT: Moderna will charge governments between 25 and 37 USD for each dose of the Covid-19 candidate vaccine, depending on the quantity required, CEO Stefan Bancel told German weekly Welt am Sonntag (WamS)
He was quoted as saying: “The cost of our vaccine is close to the cost of the influenza vaccine, which ranges from $ 10 to $ 50.”
On Monday, an EU official involved in the talks said the European Commission wanted to reach an agreement with Moderna to supply millions of doses of its candidate vaccine at less than $ 25 a dose.
Nothing has been signed yet, but we are close to reaching an agreement with the European Union Commission. “We want to hand over to Europe and have constructive talks,” Bansel told WamS, adding that it was just “a matter of days” until the contract was ready.
Moderna said its experimental vaccine is 94.5% effective in preventing Covid-19, based on tentative data from a late-stage clinical trial, becoming the second developer to deliver results that exceeded expectations after Pfizer and its partner BioNTech.
The European Union has been in talks with Moderna on an experimental Covid-19 vaccine at least since July.
