LIC Diner is preparing to adhere to new coronavirus restrictions

New York – The Court Square Diner has been a favorite of people who have lived and worked in Long Island City for years. Like many other restaurants in the city, things were tough.

Nick Canellus, owner of the restaurant, said: “Everyone is trying to succeed, trying to survive, you know what I’m saying, and you get as many people as possible to work.”

The Court Square Diner is one of the restaurants and bars in the five neighborhoods that would have to Table service stops from 10 pm to 5 am Under the new state guidelines aimed at reducing the numbers of COVID-19. While Court Square Diner can still do checkouts and deliveries during those hours, Kanellos is unconvinced that closing their dining area will lower infection rates.

“Now everyone who comes at 11 or 11:30, they’ll try to come at 8:30, 9 pm, so you’re pushing more people to come faster and create lines,” said Canellos, who is thinking of hours. The process should remain the same but increased education for restaurant owners to follow COVID-19 guidelines to keep customers and workers safe.

Customer judge Vapor says he’s also not sure it’s the right way to go.

“It’s kind of premature in my humble opinion – this is not based on facts, this is just a pulse on New York City and my community as a whole.” “I think that’s a bit of a maturity,” said Vapor.

Another client, Andre Walker, is unsure of Gov. Andrew Cuomo bases his decision on that, and says he’s up in the air about the new guidelines.

Walker said, “I think sometimes in life, when you go through pain, some good things come out of it, so hopefully that’s a decision, as some people have pain, and some good will eventually come out of this.”

Another Long Island City resident who preferred the restrictions said he was concerned about restaurant and bar owners and their staff, but “if we need to make sacrifices to get to where we should be, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that.” He didn’t see anything wrong with that.
