LEGO Super Mario is expanding significantly today, with Nintendo and The LEGO Group announcing a number of expansions, character packs, and power-up packages. Today’s announcements follow the groups that were first unveiled in June and launched in April, but oddly enough, it looks like these new groups won’t be here in time for the holidays. In fact, Christmas will miss them – which looks like an obvious target for new LEGO sets – by a week.
Among the new collections announced today, LEGO spent the most time talking about the Master Your Adventure Maker Set, describing it as a “creative toolbox”. The 336-piece set includes a customization machine that can be used to change how special bricks work and a new starter tube that can change level rules, making them even more difficult for additional rewards.
Joining the Master Your Adventure Maker Set are three expansion packs: Chain Chomp Jungle Encounter, Piranha Plant Puzzling Challenge, and Wiggler’s Poison Swamp. There are also two new Power Packs that give LEGO the power of Mario the Penguin and Tanooki.
Finally, LEGO and Nintendo release 10 new Character Packs. Series 2, as it’s officially called, includes Huckit Crab, Spiny Cheep Cheep, Ninji, Foo, Parachute Goomba, Fly Guy, Poison Mushroom, Para-Beetle, Thwimp, and Bone Goomba. Unfortunately, these characters are only available in blind bags, so if you are looking to collect all of them you will probably only have to purchase more than 10.
As with all LEGO Super Mario sets and packs, you will all need the Beginner Kit released in August to get to work. LEGO also revealed pricing for each set announced today, with the Master Your Adventure Maker set the highest price at $ 59.99. Expansion packs pricing varies: Chain Chomp Jungle Encounter is $ 19.99, Piranha Plant Puzzling Challenge is $ 29.99, and Wiggler’s Poison Swamp is $ 39.99. Power-up packs are $ 9.99 each, while character packs are $ 24.99 each. Find all these new expansions and collections coming January 1, 2021, on the LEGO website and retailers around the world.
