Galaxy S20 FE is getting Android 11 One UI 3.0 update on Verizon

Verizon just released the Android 11-based One UI 3.0 interface for its Galaxy S20 FE 5G UW device, the affordable Samsung flagship is receiving the new update with software release RP1A.200720.012.G781VSQU1CTLC. It also collects the Android security patch for December 2020.

Samsung first launched the Android 11-based One UI 3.0 update for unlocked Galaxy S20 FE models in Russia midway through December of last year. It surprised many as the company was not expected to roll out the update very early. The update went really global the following week. And now, US wireless carriers are starting to advance, too.

AT&T was the first to roll out the latest update to the Galaxy S20 FE. The largest US wireless provider started rolling out last week and Verizon is now joining the bandwagon. Verizon, of course, adds the “5G UW” suffix to the device name only to indicate that it is compatible with the carrier’s mmWave 5G technology. UW stands for “Ultra-Wideband”.

Samsung was impressed with the performance of this year’s Android 11 update rollout. The world’s largest smartphone seller has already pushed the latest version of the Android OS to most of its flagship models from the past two years. The likes of the Galaxy S20, Galaxy Note 20, Galaxy Z Flip, Galaxy Z Fold 2, Galaxy S10, and Galaxy Note 10 have all received the update in most regions around the world. The company has also opened One UI 3.0 beta programs for a couple of mid-range smartphones in the Galaxy A and Galaxy M series.

One UI 3.0 based on Android 11 brings lots of new features and improvements to Samsung smartphones. Verizon official Change It mentions a few of them, such as a section dedicated to conversations under notifications, support for chat headers, improved privacy controls, improvements to the quick panel, toolbars, notifications, settings, and more. Samsung has also made UI changes and other improvements to stock apps such as Messages, Contacts, Phone, and Calendar.

Verizon says the update is already rolling out to eligible Galaxy S20 FE 5G UW units. You should receive a notification to download the update over the air (OTA). You can also manually check for updates through system update Menu in the phone Settings Implementation. Since it is a major update of Android OS, we recommend that you connect your phone to a reliable, unmetered Wi-Fi network before downloading the OTA file.

T-Mobile is the only US wireless provider left to push the Android 11 update to the Galaxy S20 FE. Hopefully, the un-carrier will start rolling out soon.
