Royal Victoria Regional Health Center and Simcoe Muskoka County Health Unit announced Covid-19 The outbreak in Barrie, Ontario, of the hospital’s Transitional Care Unit, making it the second outbreak at the site this month.
On January 9th, in Corona Virus The outbreak was announced in the hospital’s stroke and integrated rehabilitation unit.
As of Monday evening, the Transitional Care Unit had witnessed one case of COVID-19 involving a patient, one involving a healthcare worker and one death.
The Integrated Stroke and Rehabilitation Unit experienced COVID-19 cases involving 18 healthcare workers and 10 patients, including three patient deaths.
“We are carefully monitoring this situation and are taking all necessary measures to ensure the safety of our patients, staff and doctors,” Janice Scott, RVH President and CEO, said in a statement.
“A full investigation is underway to conduct contact tracing, and we have implemented an outbreak management protocol, which includes reinforced cleaning, monitoring, education and frequent contact with patients. As an additional precaution, all personnel who have recently provided care in the unit will be tested.”
Both the Transitional Care Unit at RVH and the Integrated Stroke and Rehabilitation Unit have been closed to new admissions and referrals.
RVH restricts visitors and will allow them only on humanitarian grounds.
